Crochet your own hang-on-wall-worthy vulva: personalised, colourful and guaranteed to be one of a kind.

What you can expect:

In this three-hour workshop, we’ll be crocheting our own yarn vulvas. By the end, you’ll have created a personalised vulva with a hanger, which you can display on your wall, car mirror or Christmas tree, for example.

Do I need any prior experience?

A basic knowledge of crochet is helpful. If you have ever crocheted a pot holder using single crochet stitches, you already have what it takes to finish your own vulva during the workshop. If you don’t manage to finish the project during the workshop, you can carry on crocheting at home at your own pace with the help of a handout.

Materials:

If you have them, please feel free to bring your own crochet hook, darning needle, yarn and beads.

A number of crochet hooks and yarn needles will be available during the course. Yarn and beads in various colours and weights are also available for a materials fee of approximately €4–8 on a pay-what-you-can basis.

Crochet hooks can be purchased on site if required, so you can continue crocheting at home.

Duration: 3 hours, 18:30-21:30

Part 2, a crochet workshop for advanced learners, will take place on 17 November. Participants from the first part will receive a 10% discount on Part 2!

Short bio:

Marlene is an educator and craftivist from Berlin. Using needle and yarn, she creates textile vulvas that combine traditional handicrafts with feminist art. (Instagram: @hooked_on_vulvas)

Her work celebrates the diversity of human vulvas and challenges notions of the norm, beauty and gender. By using the ‘freeform crochet’ method rather than fixed crochet patterns, each vulva evolves as it is created – taking on its very own shape, texture and character. With humour and body positivity, she makes visible and tangible what is often considered taboo, and invites us to take a fresh look at body diversity.
