When it comes to sex, a lot of people wonder “am I normal?” What we see in our work is that sexuality is incredibly diverse. There are over 7 billion different kinds of normal on this planet… and they’re all welcome here!
Since opening our doors in 2011, Other Nature has always encouraged curiosity about sexuality – you don’t need to “know it all” (nobody does.) Not knowing is a chance to learn, and an invitation to be creative and playful.
We support consensual sexual expression in all its many forms, bodily autonomy, and sexual self-determination. And however you feel about sex right now, we're here for you.
At Other Nature, you will find a variety of high-quality products, body-safe sex toys, awesome books and zines, feminist porn, alternative menstrual products, natural and organic lube, gender expression gear, locally-made vegan floggers and cuffs, and lots of other sexy stuff.
If mainstream sex shops are unappealing and you’re tired of big business capitalism, we hope you’ll find us a refreshing alternative. We’re here to help you make the choices that are right for you, and will never pressure you into buying products you don’t really want.
So come in, have some tea, get advice from our knowledgeable staff, and while you're at it, check out our upcoming workshops. We offer alternative home parties too!
Not in Berlin? We’re here for you, too! Browse our products, check out our info pages and get in touch with your questions and comments.
Other Nature is a feminist, queer, sex-positive, eco-friendly, and vegan sex shop. Want to know what we mean by these words? Keep reading...
We believe in, and advocate for, a level playing field for all genders in all areas of life, and hope that you’ll join us in the fight – whether you call yourself a feminist or not.
Other Nature provides alternatives to the sexist rubbish often found in mainstream sex shops – much of which reinforces sexist stereotypes, traditional gender roles, and dominant power hierarchies – from misogynist product packaging to male-focused, heterosexist and mostly just plain sexist porn.
We offer products and workshops which promote empowered female sexuality, gender and sexual diversity, reproductive choice, consent and sexual agency, and other feminist ideals about sex and sexuality.
We also recognize that sexism intersects with other forms of discrimination and prejudice, such as racism, classism, transphobia, homophobia, and ableism, all of which need to be addressed and unpacked in our fight against patriarchal injustice.
Like most labels, ‘Queer’ means different things for different people. It can be a personal way of understanding and/or communicating our sexual preferences. It can be a political statement which breaks down binary ways of thinking. It can be lots of other things, too.
For us, being queer involves questioning prevailing norms, because we know that, when it comes to sex, there is no “normal”. Sexuality is as diverse as people are. What someone desires, enjoys or fantasizes about isn't determined by their anatomy, gender identity or sexual orientation.
Regardless of how you identify and what you're into, you're welcome at Other Nature. You can ask questions and browse our products without fear of being boxed in – because we know that double dildos aren't just for lesbians, a dislike of anal sex doesn't make you less gay, and getting off on hot hetero porn won't turn you straight.
In a world which constantly tries to tell us how to be, and too often punishes us for being who we are, Other Nature is committed to supporting and celebrating everyone's right to determine and express their own unique sexuality.
Everyone has the right to make – and deserves to feel great about – their own choices regarding their sexuality and sexual practices. For us, sex-positivity is about respecting and rejoicing in these choices. There's nothing wrong with sex, and there's equally no right way to want, have or feel about it.
There's an array of negative and contradictory messages about sex out there, which can lead to people feeling ashamed for wanting lots of sex or for not wanting any, for being kinky or for being vanilla, for who they desire or what they enjoy, or for not knowing those things.
At Other Nature, we won't tell you what your sexuality “should” be like, but we are available for open and honest discussion about ourselves as sexual beings – our feelings about our bodies, our desires and fantasies, issues around consent, our relationships, and the vast spectrum of possible sexual practices available for us to choose from.
We recognise that sex is by no means always positive. For those who’ve had negative sexual experiences or have survived sexualised violence, we’re also a supportive place in which to navigate difficult feelings about sex, and to access survivor-specific resources.
We strive to consciously destabilize and resist harmful beliefs that sex is shameful or bad. We hope that the inclusive, informative, and cozy atmosphere we provide will encourage others to do the same.
And while we're passionate about destigmatizing sex, we're even more committed to confidentiality – so rest assured that you can depend on our discretion.
Ever wonder why your dildo smells like a new shower curtain? Or why your butt plug has started to disintegrate? The simple answer is that sex toys are often made using toxic and porous materials which are potentially hazardous to your health. Hot? … NOT.
At Other Nature, we’re committed to doing our part to make the world more sustainably sexy. You’ll find a wide variety of high-quality products that are made using body- and environmentally-friendly materials. None of our toys contain phthalates, and all of our insertable toys (ex. dildos, vibrators, butt plugs) are made of non-porous materials that are easy to clean.
We actively seek out products made by companies which share our commitment to environmental- and body- friendliness, as well as working with lots of local “D.I.Y.” crafters, trans-, women- and queer-owned companies, and small manufacturers. We sell a wide selection of products that are manufactured in Germany, many of which are locally-made here in Berlin.
We acknowledge that there’s still a long way to go to make the sex toy industry greener, and we will keep on trying to do it better.

To the best of our knowledge, all the products at Other Nature are vegan. Given our high standards when it comes to selecting products, and our desire to create a sex shop with care and compassion as its foundation, the decision to go vegan made a lot of sense.
Most sex shops carry certain items which are traditionally made from animal-products, such as leather strap-ons, cuffs, floggers, and other BDSM gear. Leather items are the most obvious non-vegan products. Some condoms and lubricants are also not vegan.
At Other Nature, we offer alternatives to these traditionally animal-derived products and ingredients. Our strap-ons and kink gear are mostly made using imitation leather, nylon, or rubber. Many of our floggers are made by local crafters using recycled bicycle tubes and other found objects. We also offer a wide range of vegan latex and non-latex condoms, gloves, and dental dams, and vegan lubricants.
We’re very happy to provide a wide range of sexy, animal-friendly alternatives for anyone (vegan or not!) who is looking for ethically-made, high quality products.
Zee is Other Nature's Community Talks Project Lead and a workshop facilitator.
They do work with words and images, facilitate different kinds of dialogue, and organize community spaces. They love witnessing those moments at the shop where people come in unsure about what they might be looking for and leave with joy, openness and excitement for exploring something new.
Zee recognizes the radicality of accessing and expressing our desires, and learning what it can mean to develop mutual, intentional, caring intimacies. They approach the world with a critical, curious, anti-oppressive lens, and believe this to be an important foundation for opening up spaces and conversations around pleasure and sex education.
Maja is Other Nature's Online Shop Manager & Outreach Co-ordinator.
As a trained community worker and organiser, Maja has several years of experience in community outreach and education in the field of queer and feminist public history, as well as in political organising on borders and migration from a feminist and anti-racist perspective.
Maja started at Other Nature in 2018 and is constantly having their mind blown about the intricacies of the human body and all there is to learn about sex toys. They are excited to be part of Other Nature’s project, using feminist sex education to fight sexism and rape culture.
When not at Other Nature, Maja keeps busy organising with a Berlin-based migrant-led feminist group, as well as planting radishes, and attempting the odd pull-up
Lukas is Other Nature’s Store Manager and Product Orderer.
He has been working at Other Nature since 2016, and whether he’s buying quality products to fill the shop’s shelves, creating beautiful displays, or facilitating customers' decision-making processes with his in-depth product knowledge, he’s deeply committed to Other Nature’s mission as an educational and supportive space.
Lukas is known among ON’s staff for his calm vibes and awe-inspiring multitasking skills, which no amount of iced coffee or paperwork can ruffle!
If you visit Other Nature when he is around, chances are you’ll have the privilege of getting a cuddle - or at least a friendly greeting - from Lukas' dog Tobi. Because where Lukas goes, Tobi goes to.
Kitty May is currently on parental leave from her role as Director of Education, but you can catch her at Feelings Involved, as Other Nature's resident agony aunt.
After volunteering in sex education programmes throughout university, Kitty was thrilled to learn that talking about sex can be a career. She has a background in youth work and is also a psychotherapeutic counsellor, with a private practice specialising in gender, sexuality and relationships.
Kitty is committed to building a more sex-positive world, one open, honest conversation at a time.
She is fond of humans, books and cats, not necessarily in equal measu
Yaniv (formerly known as Inna) is Other Nature's interim Director of Education and a workshop facilitator.
In theory, Inna is a trained philosopher and systemic educator, but in practice they prefer to talk about butt plugs. Inna almost ended up teaching in elementary school, when a career in sex education came calling.
For the past 7 years they’ve been giving workshops for various anti-racist and anti-sexist projects, and since 2015 they’ve been facilitating polyamory and jealousy workshops at Other Nature.
Inna is a passionate product researcher, especially when it comes to kink. And when they're not in the store, their life revolves around food, tomato-parenting and polyamorous family planning.
Geza is Other Nature's Book Department Coordinator and a workshop facilitator.
She is a neurodiverse PoC working class queer-feminist with a background in education and experience with trauma work. Geza has facilitated workshops on art, sexuality and trauma self-care in community centers, refugee support groups and queer spaces.
As a sex-positive enthusiast she loves working at Other Nature and having a lively exchange with customers, designing colourful displays and putting her heart into making knowledge as accessible as possible.
When not at ON, she works as a financial support consultant at Humboldt University, runs and bikes (a lot), and keeps her balcony plants alive and well.
Ali is Other Nature's Toy Party Coordinator.
He was a linguistic student and activist/organizer for a student led movement trying to end the illegal metals trade and rape as a tool of war in eastern Africa.
Organizing Other Nature toy parties puts a bunch of Ali's skills into practice, including his administrative and linguistic prowess, not to mention his growing knowledge of all things sex toy-related.
Ali is also a toy party facilitator, which means you can book him to facilitate your very own toy party; or he'll happily match you with another sex toy enthusiast from Other Nature's team of toy party facilitators.
Outside of work, Ali is known for his fanciful syntactical flourishes, which makes for very poetic text messages to his lucky friends.
Sara Rodenhizer co-founded Other Nature in October 2011 after having
spent many years learning the tricks of the trade working at Venus Envy,
a feminist sex shop in Ottawa, Canada. She dedicated the next decade to
growing and shaping the queer-feminist alternative sex shop movement in
Germany. At the end of April 2021, she left Other Nature, handing the
shop over to her team who are now running it as a workers-collective.
Anne Bonnie Schindler co-founded Other Nature in October 2011, having
worked at conventional sex shops where she realized the need for a more
inclusive sex shop experience. She stepped out of the business at the
end of July 2013.
