The Diva Cup sits in the lower vagina, held in place by suction, and collects blood instead of absorbing it. It’s made of 100% medical grade silicone, which is safe for folks with latex allergies and super easy to clean.
Menstrual cups can be worn for up to 12 hours (even overnight), before your period starts, on both light and heavy days, and during physical activities or exercise (it can’t, however, be worn during penetrative vaginal sex). Silicone doesn’t absorb bacteria, which is likely the reason why there have been no reported cases of TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) associated with menstrual cups. Other benefits are that they produce absolutely no waste and don’t disrupt the healthy vaginal microcosm. And while they are a bit of an initial investment, they definitely save you money in the long run.
The Diva Cup is available in 2 different sizes. The #1 is generally recommended for people under 35 years old who haven’t given birth, and the #2 for people who have given birth and/or are over 35. These are general guidelines that don’t always apply.
