FAQ – On toy materials

What is vegan leather?

Vegan leather is an animal-friendly alternative to real leather. It can be made out of several different types of material (some of which are better than others, both from an environmental and quality standpoint.)  Our vegan leather manufacturers normally use either Lorica or Giardini Mycro, which consist of a combination of microfibres including polyamides (eg Nylon), polyurethane, and cellulose fibres.  Both these vegan leather materials are soft, durable, lightweight and water-resistant, and don’t contain PVC.

Why are sex toys made out of silicone?

You can read about the wonderful world of silicone on our sex toy materials page.

What’s TPE?

TPE is short for ‘Thermoplastic Elastomer’. It’s a polymer blend, which basically means that it’s a material formed by mixing plastic and rubber.  It’s phthalate-free, hypoallergenic, soft and durable, which makes it an attractive material for sex toy manufacturing.  TPE is generally considered to be a porous material, but a lot of quality-conscious sex toy makers have developed non-porous versions of TPE.  At Other Nature, all our TPE toys are non-porous.

What are phthalates?

Phthalates are chemical plastic softeners commonly used in sex toys, which have been linked to serious health problems.  At Other Nature, all our toys are phthalate-free.  Read more about phthalates on our sex toy materials page.
